Traditional Breton drinking song, Son ar Chistr (Breton: “Song of the Cider”, originally titled Ev Chistr ‘Ta Laou, meaning “Drink Cider, Laou!”). This was written in 1929 by two teenagers, Jean Bernard & Jean-Marie Prima, to sing as they worked on their farm. The song follows a traditional Breton pattern of one performer repeating lyrics after the other, a method known as Kan ha Diskan. The song is a ridée, or traditional Breton round dance, with six beats per measure.

A German-language version of this song also exists: Was Wollen Wir Trinken? (German: “What Should We Drink?”),which became popular in Germany during the World War II era, as well as a Dutch language rendition: Zeven Dagen Lang (Dutch: “Seven Days Long”).

Directed by Lennart Meri. The Shaman was filmed on 16 July 1977 in the northernmost corner of Eurasia, on the Taymyr Peninsula, at the Avam river, concurrently with the shooting of the documentary “The Winds of the Milky Way”. Demnime (1913 – 1980), a 9th-generation Nganasan Shaman, was 64 years old at the time. The documentary about Demnime’s incarnation ritual was completed 20 years later as the fifth and final documentary in Lennart Meri’s Encyclopaedia Cinematographica Gentium Fenno–Ugricarum series.
