? The subject and verb in a sentence must agree in number (singular or plural). A singular subject takes a singular verb, and a plural subject takes a plural verb. Errors often occur when the subject is separated from the verb by additional words or phrases, or when the subject seems plural but is actually singular.

Example of the Mistake:
The list of items are on the table. ❌
The list of items is on the table. ✅**

❗️ Why? The subject is "list," which is singular, not "items." The verb should agree with the singular subject, so it should be "is" instead of "are."
