A startup pivoting from Web2 to Web3?

Web3 gaming, a very prominent segment of crypto during the last bull run, has seen a decrease in capital funding and community hype the last 2 years.

With no clear winner in the race for a web3 project that resonates with gamers, the question that everyone is pondering: Will a web3 game ever compete against a AAA game?

? The Arbitrum Foundation has taken a big step towards incentivising innovation for web3 games via the Gaming Catalyst Program (GCP)

225 million ARB tokens (~$215 million) will be distributed over three years to support gaming projects, aiming to expand awareness and adoption of Arbitrum/Orbit/Stylus in the gaming community.

Funds are primarily designated for publishers, with grants up to 500,000 ARB (~$483,000) for new and early-stage developers.

Established developers must seek investments with value shares. Remaining funds will cover infrastructure bounties and operational expenses.

A dedicated GCP team, overseen by a council of five experts, will manage daily operations with a budget cap of $25 million, requiring DAO approval for any excess.

By allocating resources strategically, the program can maximize its impact by focusing on proven publishers and developers as well as promising independent projects within gaming.
