🔹 Converting Data for Meta-Analysis

When performing a meta-analysis, we often encounter data that's not in the desired format or lacks a proper overall estimate. Common scenarios include:

Data presented as Median and Range
Data presented as Median and IQR
Data in different units
Data provided for individual patients
CI or SE provided instead of SD
And more...

To perform a meta-analysis, it's crucial to convert these formats into mean and SD.

🔸Recently, new methods have been developed that allow direct analysis on median and IQR/Range with nearly the same precision. However, mean ± SD remains the more commonly used format in most analyses.

This pathway requires IMGs to meet specific criteria:

1. Certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
2. Passing the USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 exams.
3. Completion of at least a three-year residency in their home country or another recognized international program.
4. Working under supervision at a Tennessee facility with an accredited residency program for two years before obtaining an unrestricted license.

1. Choose the Right Congress
   Stick to the big names in your field; they’re easy to find and worth your time.
2. Abstract Submission Prep
   Deadlines are firm—though extensions are sometimes given, don’t count on it!
3. Check for Grants & Awards
   Look for opportunities to fund your trip or highlight your work. Most grants require a request during abstract submission.
4. Study the Program
   Plan early! The agenda is usually released weeks (or months) ahead.
5. Trip Prep
   If you need a visa, plan well in advance. The process can be a hassle.
6. Book Accommodation and Flight on Time
   Hotels near the venue fill up fast when a big congress is in town.
7. Design Your Poster
   Submit on time—poster deadlines are strict. Make it eye-catching to draw attendees to your booth!
8. Prepare Your Oral Presentation
   The spotlight’s on you, especially if you’re in a prime session. Master your timing and be ready to impress a full hall.
9. Network Strategically
   Identify key people you want to meet. Attend their sessions and don’t be shy about reaching out.
10. Stay Open & Flexible
    Spontaneity is your friend! Engage, explore, and enjoy—some of the best opportunities happen unexpectedly.
