Abu Dawud As-Sijistani -may Allah have mercy on him- said:

I said to Imam Ahmad:

“We have some relatives in Khurasan who hold the views of al-Irja' (the Murji’ah) and we relay as-salaam (greeting them) via letters, is this permissible?”

He said: “Subhan Allah! Why would you not relay greetings to them?!”

And I said to Ahmad: “Is it permissible for us to speak with them?”

He said: “Yes! Except if they are callers to innovations and quarrel for its sake.”

When Ahmad bin Abu Daud who was at the forefront of the Fitnah of the creation of the Qur'an was struck by paralysis at the end of life.

Shaykh Abdulaziz Al-Kinaani Rahimahullah -who was from the students of Imam Shaafi'i Rahimahullah- visited him and said:

"I didn't come to you as a visitor (because you're sick), rather I came to praise Allah that He imprisoned you in your own skin".
