ICPAC of IGAD used the Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF) to produce forecasts in a resolution of 10 x 10 Km. The weekly forecasts are very popular and help stakeholders prepare for extreme weather, and mitigate risks associated with floods, drought or heavy rainfall.

The search for invisible resources situated beneath the surface of the earth, isn't an easy task.

It requires thorough and systematic approach to locate potential water bearing locations knows as aquifers.

Thanks for the advent of geospatial science and technology, the search for groundwater resources has became more effective and thereby improved drilling success rate.

Normally, followed a structured and phase-wise approach with application of Remote Sensing and GIS during groundwater mapping process.

#Phase 1: inception mainly including review of data & gaps

A thorough review and collection of preexisting data is very important (land cover, soil, hydrology, geology, topography, demographic etc..). Also the gathered data need to be organized, visualized coupled with the production of small scale maps, models, sections.

Moreover, in the first phase of the mapping process, identification of missing data and gaps is very crucial.

Perhaps maybe very useful to differentiate relevant parameters to be considered in groundwater potential mapping.
