The Kailash Temple at Ellora

It is a remarkable rock-cut structure dedicated to Lord Shiva. Carved out of a single monolithic rock, it stands as a stunning example of ancient Indian architectural and sculptural mastery. The temple, built in the 8th century, features intricate carvings, depicting various deities, and symbols. Its creation involved sculptors removing rock to craft a temple complex resembling Mount Kailash, the sacred abode of Lord Shiva. Near the main gate at the west end, one can admire a pair of multiple-armed statues of the terrible god Ugrabhairab and his counterpart Ugrachandi, the fearsome manifestation of Bhagvan Shiva’s consort Mata Parvati. Ugrachandi has eighteen arms holding weapons, and she is in the position of casually killing the demon Mahishasur.Bhairav has twelve arms and both god and goddess are garlanded with necklaces of human heads.
