Here with an update:

➡️ The GOP party flipped a longtime Democratic House seat in a South Texas special election.

➡️ In South Carolina, Rep. Tom Rice, one of the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump, lost his primary to Trump-backed candidate Russell Fry. Rep. Nancy Mace had better luck against her Trump-endorsed challenger, winning her Republican primary with a bare majority.

➡️ In Texas, Republican Mayra Flores flipped the 34th District. She’ll only hold the seat until January, but her victory signals significant GOP gains among Latino voters in recent years.

We'll be back in the morning with more on what happened in last night's elections.

Hey there. Today we’ve got primaries in Maine, Nevada, North Dakota and South Carolina. Plus, there’s a special election in Texas. Here’s what you should know:

➡️ Keep your eyes on South Carolina — that’s where Trump will be looking. He has endorsed two GOP candidates: Katie Arrington, who is taking on Rep. Nancy Mace, and Russell Fry, who is taking on Rep. Tom Rice. Rice has staunchly supported impeaching Trump from office last year.

➡️ In Nevada, a leader of a Trump-aligned group of election conspiracy theorists could get one step closer to becoming the battleground state’s chief elections officer.

➡️ In Texas’ special election, Republicans are testing their strength among Latino voters in the Rio Grande Valley. They’re supporting Mayra Flores while Democrats are backing Daniel Sanchez.

We’ll be back with an update tonight.

Hello again! We’re here with a recap of last night’s primaries. It was a big one.

➡️ All five of the House Republicans on yesterday’s ballot who voted to create a bipartisan commission to investigate Jan. 6 survived. Looks like Republicans who crossed Trump didn’t suffer too much for their infidelity.

➡️ In a sign of how quickly politics is shifting around criminal justice this year, San Francisco’s progressive prosecutor Chesa Boudin was recalled.

➡️ Democrats have a turnout problem in California. Nationally, they face a bleak midterm landscape so any sign of apathy in the biggest and bluest state is cause for concern.

➡️ Kristi Noem won South Dakota’s GOP gubernatorial primary with big margins after a turbulent first term (that’s putting it mildly). It was a show of force for someone who might run for president or vice president in 2024.

For more, check out our full takeaways from last night.

We'll be back on June 14 for the next primary.

Update: In South Dakota, Rep. Dusty Johnson fended off a primary challenge to win the GOP nomination. He is one of 35 House Republicans who voted for an independent commission to investigate the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Follow along with our live chat as results continue to roll in.

We’ll be back with an update later today.

Welcome back to another big primary day ? Today we’ve got elections in CA, IA, MS, MT, NJ, NM, and SD. Here’s what to know:

➡️ Everyone’s watching CA’s all-party primaries, and with good reason: the path to the House majority crosses through the Golden state (again). GOP Reps. David Valadao and Young Kim in particular could be in trouble. They face uncomfortably close primary contests today — and a loss by either could seriously endanger the GOP’s hold on their swing seats in the fall.

➡️ Keep your eyes on LA’s mayoral race, where billionaire (and former Republican) Rick Caruso is neck-and-neck with progressive Democratic Rep. Karen Bass. Bass is a well-known and formidable politician with a long history of activism in the area. But the city’s voting class, worried about encampments and crime, seem drawn to Caruso’s vision of a cleaner, safer LA.

➡️ In non-Cali news: Rep. Dusty Johnson, the two-term South Dakota Republican, is defending his seat from state Rep. Taffy Howard, who has spread Trump’s false claims that the 2020 election was stolen. Johnson is one of five House Republicans on the ballot today who had voted to create a bipartisan commission to investigate the Jan. 6 attack.

We’ll be back June 7 for the next primary. Hope y’all can get some rest this Memorial Day weekend.

Votes are still being counted in Georgia and Texas but here’s what we know so far:

➡️ Brad Raffensperger clinched the GOP nomination for Georgia Secretary of State, which shows that Trump’s Big Lie isn’t an especially salient concern for the majority of primary voters.

➡️ In Texas, it’s still too close to call the race between Rep. Henry Cuellar — the last anti-abortion House Democrat — and progressive Jessica Cisneros. But what’s clear is that abortion rights is not a runaway winner for the party in every slice of the country.

Trump won’t be happy with the results out of Georgia tonight.

Gov. Brian Kemp, Trump’s Public Enemy #1, won by a landslide. Of the 5 races for constitutional office where Trump has endorsed, only one of his picks — Burt Jones for lieutenant governor — is ahead. But it’s not clear he’ll pass the threshold to avoid a runoff.
